About This Resource

Despite the need for foundations and nonprofits to track research efforts in the field of philanthropy, there is a clear and noticeable gap in this particular niche of the social science literature. Even with philanthropy's explosive growth within the last ten years, researchers will find very few dedicated databases available in the leading literature abstract vendors, such as DIALOG, FirstSearch, and Lexis-Nexis. Consequently, foundations and nonprofits - particularly within their library and research departments - are forced to turn elsewhere for informational resources that inform the field of philanthropy. At present, the overwhelming majority of the more content-rich resources are scattered throughout the Internet.

This search tool - Web Resources on Philanthropy, Nonprofits & Grantmaking - has been created to inform the grantmaking community exactly where to turn for information, given the lack of representation in the more traditional literature databases. The Annie E. Casey Foundation recommends these websites simply as additional sources for information; we cannot, however, verify the accuracy of information, nor do we necessarily agree with the opinions expressed at these websites. Access to these websites may change unexpectedly or without warning. Web Resources on Philanthropy, Nonprofits & Grantmaking and its contents will be updated on a regular basis - contact library staff to receive a copy of the latest version.
